The Eagle has landed.

Dad and I were driving down to Wal Mart (mistake) and we drove past Lake of the Woods and saw this Eagle. I am sorry my camera took a fuzzy picture but you get the idea. How did he know the water was frozen.

And what about Wal Mart? Is there a fire marshall sign somewhere saying that only x amount of people are allowed in there. If a fire broke out you would never get out. It was wall to wall people today.

We have 4 new inches of snow and very very cold weather. Oh, the weather outside is frightful but the fire is so delightful and since there's no place to go.....let it snow....let it snow.....let it snow.

How my Mom did it.

Last Monday night we invited to older ladies to dinner at our house. Buddy Wise and Shirley Jones. These are two women who knew my mom. They linked me to a sweeter time with mom. We had a nice evening. Lee helped decorate the table. She did some candles for a center piece. We gave them away to our guests but not before I decided I would use Lee's idea and make a pretty table center piece. I just love it. And I got really into it and made one for the front door. We have the trees and bushes and it was fun to do something that didn't cost me anything and was from the outdoors. That is what my mom did when I was little. Dad liked it too.

Merry Christmas Eve Eve Eve.

Pete called me on their family trip back to St. David after Thanksgiving and asked me to tell Megan my Santa story. I was always able to tell our children that Santa was real because I actually saw him and his sleigh on Christmas Eve when I was about 6 -7 years old. My sisters were up and their noise woke me up and I went from my bedroom to the tree where they were standing. Coleen told me that Santa had just come and if I hurried I could see him out the window. I ran to the big window that faced west and across the field were Pine trees on the horizon. I distinctly saw Santa and his Reindeer bobbing just above those trees. I have a memory of that. So, if like Pete, you need some backup one day. I am available with this true story.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful. But my jammys and boots are so delightful and since there's no place to go.....I will just watch from the window.

Due to the inclement weather there will be no school at Blue Ridge today.

So.....what to do with Lee......Actually, she was very willing to shovel the snow. I don't know what we will do next year when she is gone. I mean who will shovel the snow?

Say hello to the first snowman of the season. Jeremiah made him today. But don't be too impressed, he is only 8 inches all.

We have about a foot of snow on the ground and a little more falling this afternoon. And it is cold!

Can I say again that we are happy to have it!

The staff of life

I have been sabotaged by my oven! It takes forever for things to cook and they very seldom look toasty and well browned. I have even been baking things 50 degrees higher than recipes say. So I finally called in the repair man. My oven is 100 degrees below what it should be. I am waiting for the part now but....yesterday I baked bread at 450 degrees and this is the bread I got. (I know, sometimes it is me but this time it is the oven.)

We have had a great weekend. This snow was hoped for but we were pleased it really happened. It has been a long time since snow has fallen before Christmas. The picture doesn't really do justice to the lights and the snow. If all goes well, we may get more by Tuesday morning. So, Merry Christmas from the home in the snow.
