FHE with Grandma Beverly

We had a fun evening with Jeff and Tammy tonight. We went over to
Beverly's and raked her yard. Then we went in and ate pizza!

For the last 35 years Beverly has been part of my life and part of the fall season. She used to get us together for canning projects and she and dad always went to football games and then planned for Thanksgiving together.

It has always been amazing to me that she brought us in as family. I know, she married dad so that makes us family. But that doesn't always work that way. Beverly always assumed that we were supposed to be
family. Even after dad died she could
have walked. But here it is 13 + years
later and we are still very connected.

It is a compliment to her.

PUMPKINS!!!

David and I picked my pumpkins last Saturday. The green ones are from heirloom seeds. They just didn't have enough time to turn orange. But I like the variety or orange and green. I also have winter squash mixed in here and they are green also. I will can them pretty soon. The pumkpins are decoration and gifts only. I like the squash to eat. These pumkpins don't taste so good.

It is fun how the leaves become part of our fall decorations. I just love this time of year.

WISHING YOU WERE HERE.

We planned to get wood this weekend. But, really, we wanted to see the Aspens. Alot of them are gone but we found some good patches. And, of course, we found Christmas trees. (upon closer inspection the Christmas trees weren't that good...but then it is only October.)

This is one thing I love about David: he is a cautious man. He always checks out the load before we enter the highway.

HOW TO CUT WOOD

Must have: One willing man with an ax and a saw. David and I found this tree right of the road. We had some discussion about looking further or cutting this one. The reason we were in debate is this: Spruce trees have alot of branches so there is alot more work. I like burning Spruce. So I wanted this tree. David likes Aspen. Not so many branches to get out of the way and he likes how it burns. This day we stayed with the Spruce. It took him about 45 minutes to cut it up. Then he started splitting them up. It was hard work. So rest periods were a must. I loaded alot of the wood but by comparison, David's end of the deal was much more work. We decided that next weekend we aren't going to dive in like we did 20 years ago. The idea is to
pace the work from start to finish.

HOLD OVERS FROM GENERAL CONFERENCE

We have much welcomed guests who continued to stay with us after their parents left for home. Abbey and Bode are spending a couple of nights with us. They have played and played. Just wanted to post a couple pictures from their visit.
