Triumph over Bright

I posted earlier about the new grow boxes that my husband built.
I planted two of the boxes full of tomatoes.  One plant began to look yellow and
sickly.  I thought it was a bug thing so I sprayed.  Killed the
bugs but the plant kept failing and it started to migrate to other
plants.  They were looking bad and then we had a hail storm hit. It was insult to injury.

My friend, Carol, who knows everything about vegetable
gardening ( and antiques ) looked at them and said it was blight and
the best thing to do was pull them all up and put them in
plastic bags because the disease is air borne and it would
effect other tomato plants in the area.  Now I am really sick.

So I told David what we were going to need to do and  he
said, "no, clean them up and get some fungicide and
spray them".  So I did and I did and I did.  And they
have come back and look like this.  And we are
eating tomatoes now.  I don't have a ton.  I think some of
the stems I had to pick off were the producers.  But I am
pleased that we saved these babies from the brink.

If you have any gardening problems call Dave.
Although I still think Carol knows a ton about gardening.

Abagail Marie

My son, Tim and his lovely and gracious wife, Connie, spent a couple days with us the end of July.  Abbey likes horses so we made arrangements with a ward member, Bro. Lamoreaux, to let her ride one of his horses.  He was so great with her.  He taught her enough to let her walk the horse (can't remember his name.....) by herself.  She just lit up.

A little scared at first.

Feeling good in the saddle.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

I was in the valley last week and was at Tim and Connie's just in time
to see Abbey leave for her first day of school.  This is on the way
out the door.  Pretty happy she was!

That's her bus.  It is the "short bus".  They seat belt
the little ones.  She never looked back.

And this cute picture.  Mikey waving goodbye to his big sister.

Families are forever.  Why else would we have these binding
experiences...simple as they are.  They are sweet little memories
that make us love each other.  And that love is forever.

A Few of My Favorite Things

Every morning when I dry after my shower and get
dressed I say to myself, "it feels so good to be clean".
I have the same feeling over and over again every day.

I have things that I feel the same about every time
I use them.  Not quite as good as feeling clean but
good.  Here are a few of them.

My Rolodex.  I have started keeping alot of information
in here.  I like it when my husband says, "do you remember
the code to the gate at such and such?" or "what is the
password to such and such?"....stuff like that.  I have become
very adept at writing any and all information in my Rolodex.

My Hula Hoe.  David bought this for me about 3 years ago.  It is the best gardening tool if you deal with weeds.  It makes quick work of a weeding the garden.  You should have one.  My neighbor, Deedo, asked me how I kept the weeds down and I showed her the hoe.  The next day her husband
bought her one.  We all feel like superior gardeners with our hula hoes.

Pumkpins ~ my favorite garden vegetable.  I don't eat
them I anticipate them!  They are the symbol of fall to me.
This year I am going to have alot of them and I am
pleased.  This particular variety is the kind that you buy
at Safeway or Wal-Mart.  They are good producers.  I do
have some heirloom varieties on the otherside of my
yard.  Some are doing better than others.

For years I tried to do my hair and make it stylish.  Didn't happen.
About 5-10 years ago my girls started talking about "product".
That is what they would say, "it is 'product', mom....you need
'product'.  So I got some!!  I just buy this stuff at Wal-Mart....
wait....I have started buying it at Walgreens because they
have two for one sales.  The tube of stuff goes on my wet
hair and I blow it dry all spiky and the spray cements the job.

This is my kitchen chopper.  I have had two since I
discovered them.  I wore the first one out.  It literally
fell to pieces.  You can't tell but this one is held
together with packing tape.  I don't know how much
life is left in it.  I chop nuts and onions in it.  I think I
should have two...one for nuts and one for onions.
It is tricky to get clean but well forth it.
My shelves of childrens books.  I was the Children's Librarian for 11 years at the Public Library.  When I left there I started collecting books that I had read to the children.  I wanted them to read to my grandchildren.  I have a pretty good collection.  I have several very special memories of reading to my grandchildren.   A couple of my favorites are Cars and Trucks and Things That Go and I Made You.  The grandkids love these books.  When Tim and Connie were here the last time we had FHE and I read I Made You and their babies just sat on my lap when I read it and I loved that!  Then I watched Jill and John's babies and I read it to them one night when they were going to bed and there was the best feeling again.  Books....do books.

I read a lot to my children when they were growing up.  We went to the Public Library alot.  When I wish I would have been a better mom I take comfort in the fact that that was a consistent thing I did with them.

This dates me.  I love cordless phones.  Our history of phones is similar to all of our other histories.....if it isn't broken it doesn't need to be replaced....or updated.  We had a rotary dial phone long enough that Peter's friends who came over didn't know how to call their moms for a ride.  (that made us
update our phone before it actually died)  By then I dreamed of something like a cordless phone.  Until then I bought the longest cord a phone could have and ended up stretching it out several yards further.  So when we
got a cordless phone it opened up alot of space for me.  I know cell phones are cordless...daaa....but they are so thin that it ends up hurting my neck to
walk around doing stuff and talking on one.  So I prefer the cordless land line phone....one of my favorite things.

Shout  was on my luxury list years ago.  I couldn't always afford it so
when I could I loved using it.  Kids stuff just comes clean
with Shout.  My mom used it on her car when tar would splatter up
on her bumper.  Worked every time.

This is my Book of Mormon.  (I know, it is upside down.  I tried to turn it around but it kept coming this way and it is my crown jewel of favorite things.)

This year I have been faithfully reading the Old Testament. I know the stories but I have not ever read it from cover to cover.  I have learned alot.  Interesting people.  Ginormous faith.  Love that!

Because I have a reading time and then I am off to the races I haven't been reading the Book of Mormon.  I realized how much I missed it when we had
our Young Women read the Book of Mormon in 24 hours.  So now I try and read from both books....to be fair the the Old Testament.

I think my favorite prophet from the Old Testament (to date) is Moses.  He must have been much like Joseph Smith.  He knew what he knew so he
never stopped moving his people forward....even when they were hard to deal with.  In his case 40 years!  And what would it have been like to see the sea part?

This is one of my favorite scriptures from the Book of Mormon.

Alma 41:14-15

14 Therefore, my son, see that you are merciful unto your brethren; deal justly, judge righteously, and do good continually; and if ye do all these things then shall ye receive your reward; yea, ye shall have mercy restored unto you again; ye shall have justice restored unto you again; ye shall have a righteous judgment restored unto you again; and ye shall have good rewarded unto you again.

15 For that which ye do send out shall return unto you again, and be restored;......

These are a few of my favorite things. :)

How much is that Doggie in the Window?

No, Boo isn't my child.  But she is my companion.  Just ask her.  I think she finds happiness in being a companion dog in the real sense of the word.

I wish she could talk.  I really can't tell what she is thinking.  Of course, UP gave me an idea of how dogs think and I have to admit that it fits.  Here are a few random shots of my companion dog, the Booster.

Laughing.

Checking things out.  Boo loves dogs ~ especially little dogs.

Giving our neighbor, Dylan, a love.  (look at her... she
has her head resting on his chest and her paw wrapped
around his leg.)
Boo with Tim and Connie's dogs,
                                                     Molly and Oscar.....
                                             just hoping to come inside.

And just so I don't seem partial to one critter ~ this is
my daughter Lee's cat, Finch.  This picture does not do
justice to this odd ball cat.  Hopefully you get the picture.
Enjoy it now, Finch, because the baby is coming!  hee hee

What a coat of paint can do.

The big snow last winter damaged one of our trusses.  We had it fixed two weeks ago.  The ceiling was also damaged from the weight of the truss.  So, we had the ceiling repaired too.  Well ~ nothing to do but paint the repair.  David put a different moulding up on the fireplace wall and I painted away the yellow with a light brown.  And the rest of the room is a creamy colored paint.

I was shocked when I started painting the ceiling.  I burn candles in the fall and winter.  (Love those cinnamon spice or mulled cider candles.)  The smoke from those candles had really made my
ceiling black.  I keep a clean house so to see how bad the ceiling was was embarrassing!  It took 3 coats to hide it all.

But now it looks so clean and fresh and new.

I am posting this for my family.  I am trying to decorate with less.  So far I am doing ok.  (withdrawals...ya know) I love to fill every bare spot.  But when I took things down I realized just how much I had on my walls!!  I hope the difference is noticeable.

Green Beans

It always amazes me that
this

started out like this.

I have four rows of green beans.
What was I thinking?

The baby having a baby.

This is my youngest daughter and the baby, Lee.
She spent last week with David and I.
We had a good time!
I have given some thought to the baby having a baby...........
 (birds chirping, cricket sounds),
I thought I would be very emotional and philosophic.
But I am at peace and
am pleased that she is ready to take on parenthood.
I am pleased that my children want children.
The world would have you
believe that you
are selling yourself short when you don't
 get to travel or
have a career or whatever.
The world is a lonily place.  If you use the world for your guide, you
will end up lonily.  Life is about relationships.  And family if the
best relationship.  You will learn much about yourself by being
a parent.
