Visit to Oro Valley

We made our way to Oro Valley a couple Saturdays ago.  It is
nice that we can reach family on a half tank of gas.  And it is
nice to have the time to do it!

Pete and Brittany and family moved to Oro Valley last July.
This is the first time we have been to their home since they
moved in.  We enjoyed the day.

Pete, Brittany and family

The people Pete went to work for were moving into
a new office when he went to work for them and, look, his name is on the window.
It was a long time coming.

Girlfriends.
Megan's room.

Megan is so pretty. And Fun!

Melanie's Room.

This girl is pretty and fun, too.

Nap time for Jett.  He might look like he didn't want
a nap but he just went right to sleep.

Thanks, Merrill's for the fun Saturday.

Sometimes Life Can Get Rocky

I believe there really is something to the D vitamin thing in the winter.
I recommend a good day out in the sun!

A week or two back our son, Tim, told David about a road to a mine.
It is the Sunflower Mine west of Mt. Ord.  David studied the book we
have on Arizona trails and we made a plan.

Tim had the day off so he and Connie and Co. came.  David Halls
and family, Richie and Levi Crockett, and Talon Owens came.
Just the best of company.
Heads up:  it is good to travel trails with company.

This is our granddaughter, Abbey.  She is directing traffic.

David: Waving hello from the (passenger side) right.

And waving from the (driver) left.

David halls in his Lexus Landcruiser.  Hard core enthusiasts call
these "Pink Panties".  You'll have to tell me why.

When life gets rocky.....it can be fun.  Our trail book, which was
published in 2001 is WAY old in trail years.  This was a hard trail.
It is mostly river bottom, VERY rocky, and has been washed out TEN more
years since publication of that book..  OK, we stopped for
lunch, etc.  but what was supposed to be a FOUR hour round
trip took 7.5 hours.  Rich brought his F150 4x4.  I am not
sure he would recommend this trail for that vehicle.  Check out
"Richie" blog.

I like to think of the pioneers and covering this kind
of ground in wagons.  I also like to think of me doing it in a jeep. ahhhh.

Talon Owens.   He overheard David making his plan and asked
if  he could come.  We have plenty of room for Talon!.  He is
good company.

I just call this one a Bishopric Meeting.

David liked this picture.

Every now and then we just had to walk.
And that wasn't easy.

This little boy, Ben, never made a peep all day.
Well, once when he wanted to nurse.

Although this picture tells a story the real story is
when that car stopped the doors flew open and these
kids took off.   See Abbey~she moved in with the Halls
for the day.

Abbey and Stevie.

Abbey and new friends, Stevie, Emily and Amy.

This is part of the Sunflower Mine.  They mined Cinnabar and
turned it into Mercury.  It closed in the early 50's.  These tubes
would be heated and a process would separate the mercury and
it would fall to the bottom of the tubes and collected.

The mastermind.

And his sidekick, Tim (with Connie and Ben).

No, this is not for the heck of it.  Think F150.

Levi on his Christmas present.

Trail buddies.

Abbey liked Emily.  Emily liked Abbey.  But Emily also
liked Oscar.

What is this dog thinking?

Part of the mine.

Big stuff.

Who knew the sun would be going down before we got out of there.

Although this picture fits well here it wasn't taken at the end....more in the
middle.  Mike fell asleep and poor Oscar was stuck.  This sweet boy and his
dad had a close call.  They were on the quad and a rock flipped up into the back
end and the quad started to flip over.  Tim, who is a DPS officer,
instantly wrapped his arms around Mike, who was in front of him,
and jumped off the quad.  He wrapped his legs around Mike and they hit the ground.
The quad rolled and rolled and landed rightside up still running. Mike
got a strawberry on his lower back and Tim got pretty beat up on
his left side and chest.  He told us he remembered helping motorcycle accident
survivors (which there aren't very many of) who had jumped off their bikes
when they lost control of them.
 Quick thinking, Tim.

I love Arizona.

I don't know if any words are necessary
for these pictures.  And I know too many landscape
pictures can bore people.  But I don't know how
these can.

Richie's first trip.

These were fun people!  Levi loved the day on a quad.
and Richie, whose newly acquired F150, took a bellyside
beating, got out of his truck at the end of the day and
said the day had been "awesome".

Richie is a generous man.  Genuinely generous. He told me he
was bringing snacks.  We all were.....but he meant for
everyone....especially the children.  It was sweet to watch
him find each child and make sure they had something.

Below are a couple of the places that required
some thinking to get unstuck.

This is a manufactured roadway built up with rocks to lift
Richie's truck.

Remember the rock hefting from the previous blog.  That is it by Tim on the right.
Moved to make passage for the F150.

This might look tedious.  But men like this kind of stuff.
They did all kind of things to keep Richie moving.

No, he's not going to climb the ledge.  Just skirting it.

Made it.....with a little help from his friends.

It looks so easy.
What to do this time.......He looks like he is
on his own.
This kind of help always worried me.
